What does the term “portable display” cover?

In a sense, all trade show displays are portable, since they have to move from one place to another. But the term has really come to mean the lightweight displays that were introduced in the 1970s that have revolutionized the trade show display industry.

Nowadays there is a concentration on low weight, durability and ease of use. The term “portable displays” can be refined into the following display types :

One of the most affordable ways to make a presentation, the tabletop exhibit is designed to be displayed on a 6’ or 8’ table and is typically available as a folding panel set-up or as a pop-up display.

As their name suggests, pop-up displays work by expanding an aluminum frame to which fabric or graphic panels are attached. They are lightweight and compact making them highly portable. There are several methods of implementing a pop-up display and they are targeted at most price points.

In general, differences between economy and premium pop-up displays include not only price but also durability and customization possibilities. For example, an economy display usually means a thinner frame while a premium display has a thicker frame along with options for adding custom lighting and shelving.

Most pop-up display frames come with a lifetime guarantee. If a display is likely to be looked after carefully, there should be no problem in choosing an economy pop-up display . On the other hand, if a display is likely to be handled by multiple sales teams at different trade shows, then a more robust premium display may be better suited.

Panel Display Systems

Panel display systems are available in two types: individual panels finished in either laminate or fabric (or both) which connect together via hardware attached to the panels or the more economical fabric covered folding hinged panels. Although panel displays may not be packed and transported as compactly as a pop-up displays, their more robust construction makes them more durable and less likely to be damaged during setup and transit.

Panel display systems offer flexibility to a degree in that they can be reconfigured for different booth space sizes.
